Baseball complex gets formal unveiling

It two years, the call of "Let's play ball!" might be heard loud and often in Mooresville.


The summer of 2012 is when officials hope to swing open the gates to a 25-field youth baseball complex in Mooresville, welcoming thousands of youngsters and their families each year who, in turn, will have a strong economic impact on Iredell County.

Originally unveiled last week, the project became official Wednesday when owners of America's Park LLC, along with town and county leaders, formally announced plans for the facility. They received final economic incentives from the county on Tuesday.

To be built on undeveloped land on Rankin Hill Road northwest of Mooresville, the baseball camp is touted as the country's largest youth baseball facility.
