Lake Norman Food and Wine Festival

Next Saturday or Sunday June 5-6 at Kenton Place in Cornelius, the Lake Norman Food & Wine Festival is the place to be. In addition to wine tastings from 12 North Carolina wineries, the Lake Norman Wine and Food Festival will feature area restaurants and vendors, including Dressler's, The Creole House, Sangam Indian and more. The event will include a number of distinct areas including: the Main Tent, wine lectures and cooking demonstrations; the Wine Reservoir, the Restaurant Galley, small dishes from local restaurants; as well as a Merchants area, regional vendors and boutique offerings.

The Lake Norman Wine and Food Festival was founded to benefit local charities in need and has filed for its 501(c)(3) nonprofit status. The festival will be donating proceeds to Angels and Sparrows, Hope House and the Mooresville Soup Kitchen.

Baseball complex gets formal unveiling

It two years, the call of "Let's play ball!" might be heard loud and often in Mooresville.


The summer of 2012 is when officials hope to swing open the gates to a 25-field youth baseball complex in Mooresville, welcoming thousands of youngsters and their families each year who, in turn, will have a strong economic impact on Iredell County.

Originally unveiled last week, the project became official Wednesday when owners of America's Park LLC, along with town and county leaders, formally announced plans for the facility. They received final economic incentives from the county on Tuesday.

To be built on undeveloped land on Rankin Hill Road northwest of Mooresville, the baseball camp is touted as the country's largest youth baseball facility.

Mooresville to become home to 'Disney World of baseball'

Great news for baseball fans and especially my 10 year old who plays on the Lake Norman Wildcats travel baseball team.

Mooresville and NASCAR have been linked for years, but soon the town's name is going to be synonymous with another popular sport: youth baseball.Town commissioners announced Monday that a corporation affiliated with Cooperstown Dreams Park – a 22-field complex in New York often called the "crown jewel" of youth baseball, home to the American Youth Baseball Hall of Fame – has chosen Mooresville to be the site of an $18 million-$21 million, 25-field youth baseball tournament complex.The facility would be the largest of its kind in America, officials said."It's one of those deals that comes along once in a million years," said Commissioner Mitch Abraham.

The complex, to be called America's Park Mooresville – has been in the works since July 2009. To be built on approximately 111 acres off Rankin Hill Road on Mooresville's north side, the complex is scheduled for completion by summer 2012. It will bring in an estimated $35 million annually in tourism revenue during the 13-week height of its summer season alone and could be used by 95 to 103 teams per week for tournaments, officials said.
In addition to several hundred parking spaces and 24 standard ball fields, the project will feature a 4,000-6,000-seat stadium."This is the Disney World of baseball," said Commissioner Mac Herring.Commissioner Chris Carney said town officials were surprised to discover that Mooresville was a contender among other cities across the country which were also courting the project. But, said Carney, Mooresville had several things going for it.
